Carneiro advocates for renewed Europe-Africa strategic alliance
José Luís Carneiro, Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS), has advocated for the relaunch of an alliance between Europe and Africa. Speaking at a debate in Lisbon involving former presidents Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Joaquim Chissano, Carneiro argued that strengthening these relations is essential for addressing Europe's demographic challenges and enhancing its strategic autonomy.
Carneiro highlighted that Africa holds critical resources, such as 75% of the world's platinum, which are vital for European defense and aeronautics industries. He emphasized the need for integrated mechanisms to manage regulated flows through education, training, and qualification to prepare new generations.
Separately, Paulo Marques, President of the Associação Cívica, noted that the political participation of Portuguese citizens and descendants in France has reached a level of maturity. Data shows an exponential increase in candidates of Portuguese origin, rising from 7,000 in 2001 to over 41,000 in recent local elections, reflecting deep integration within the French political landscape.
