CARNET completes AI curriculum for Croatian students

The Croatian Academic and Research Network (CARNET) has completed a comprehensive artificial intelligence curriculum designed for students from the 5th grade of primary school through the end of high school. The new curriculum for 3rd and 4th-grade high school students completes a full educational path established under the BrAIn project, which is valued at nearly 16 million euros.

In primary schools, the curriculum is implemented as an extracurricular activity, while in high schools, it serves as an elective subject consisting of 35 hours per year. The program aims to provide age-appropriate knowledge, ranging from recognizing everyday AI applications like YouTube or TikTok recommendations in younger years to studying AI models, data bias, and ethical implications in high school.

Additional topics include cybersecurity, personal data protection, digital identity, and the identification of disinformation. The curriculum also prepares students for the changing labor market by exploring how automation and AI impact various professions through practical tasks and visits to scientific and university centers.
