Carnia foragers discover 1.8-kilogram giant porcini mushroom
Two mushroom enthusiasts, Riccardo Fiorini and Simone Crudi, discovered an exceptionally large Boletus edulis (porcini mushroom) in the Carnia region of Italy. The specimen weighed 1.8 kilograms and featured a cap diameter exceeding 40 centimeters.
The foragers, who are members of the Associazione micologica sammarinese, found the mushroom in a fir forest near Sappada. They noted that recent rain and low foot traffic likely contributed to the fungus reaching such significant size. In addition to the giant specimen, the pair also collected another porcini weighing approximately one kilogram.
Fiorini estimated that the large mushroom could feed at least 15 people, noting that they prepared it by breading and frying it.
