Carnival Corporation Sets 2029 Goal to Cut GHG Emissions Intensity by 25%

Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise operator, announced a new sustainability target to reduce greenhouse‑gas (GHG) emissions intensity by 25% by 2029, measured against its 2019 baseline. The company had already achieved its original 2030 goal five years early, cutting intensity by 20% in 2025, and therefore raised the target by five percentage points and moved the deadline up a year.

The decarbonisation plan relies on operational improvements, energy‑efficiency investments and low‑GHG power generation, with the aim of lowering fuel use today while developing flexibility for multiple future fuel pathways. The efficiency gains are projected to save roughly $650 million in fuel costs in 2026 compared with 2019 levels. Since 2008, Carnival has reduced its GHG emissions intensity by 44%, halving emissions per guest sailing. CEO Josh Weinstein said the early achievement “is a significant milestone” and that the new 2029 target will keep the company improving “for the planet, for our business and for confidence in the road ahead.”
