Carnival Freedom undergoes funnel reconstruction in Marseille

The Carnival Freedom cruise ship has entered the Chantier Naval de Marseille for a month-long repair project to reconstruct its iconic whale-tail funnel. The ship arrived in Marseille on September 2 following a transatlantic cruise.

The distinctive red, white, and blue funnel was destroyed for a second time by a lightning-induced fire in March 2024. This follows a previous incident in May 2022 that required a reconstruction in late 2023. The vessel has been operating with a temporary straight funnel since the most recent fire.

To minimize downtime, the Marseille shipyard prepared the new structure in a hangar during mid-August. The repairs are expected to be completed before the ship returns to service on October 9.
