Carnival Panorama passenger goes overboard near Mexico

A 56-year-old male passenger went overboard from the Carnival Panorama cruise ship on Saturday during its return voyage from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to Long Beach, California. The incident occurred on the seventh day of a week-long Mexican Riviera cruise.

Following the disappearance, the ship's crew initiated search protocols, which included a lockdown where passengers were instructed to remain in their staterooms. Onboard surveillance footage was reviewed, confirming the individual had gone overboard. The vessel briefly reversed course to assist in the search before resuming its route.

A coordinated international search and rescue operation is underway involving the United States Coast Guard and the Mexican Navy. The search efforts include the use of aircraft and maritime vessels to cover the area off the coast of the Baja peninsula. Carnival Cruise Line has stated it is providing support to the passenger's family.
