Carnota authorities launch search for missing 86-year-old man

An intensive air and ground search operation is underway in Carnota to locate 86-year-old Juan Antonio Gil Canós, who disappeared on Sunday afternoon in the Caldebarcos area of the San Mamede parish.

The alert was triggered around 14:11 hours after a family member reported that the elderly man had not returned home following a walk. Authorities have expressed extreme urgency due to his age and high temperatures recorded throughout the afternoon. The search area is characterized by dense vegetation and steep slopes, which may complicate efforts as night falls.

The operation is led by the Guardia Civil and includes the GES de Muros, Carnota Local Police, Civil Protection, and the Axega Drone Operative Unit. Authorities have also requested assistance from motorcyclists and local residents to aid in the search. A meeting point for volunteers has been established at the entrance of Caldebarcos.
