Carol Moseley Braun Confirmed as Chair of U.S. African Development Foundation

Former U.S. Senator Carol Moseley Braun, the first African‑American woman elected to the Senate and a former ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa, was nominated by President Joe Biden in January 2024 to lead the African Development Foundation’s Board of Directors. The Senate confirmed her appointment on March 8, 2024.

Moseley Braun’s political career includes service as an assistant U.S. attorney (1973‑77), Illinois state representative (1978‑88), Cook County recorder of deeds (1988‑92), and U.S. senator from Illinois (1993‑99). She also ran briefly for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 and later founded an organic‑products company.
