Preta Gil documentary honors singer as friends recall her life

Brazilian singer Preta Gil is commemorated a year after her death with two Globo productions: the series Meu Nome é Preta and the special Quanto Mais Preta Melhor, both released on July 20. The series features the artist narrating her own story, while the special includes testimonies from close friends and collaborators.

Actor Otávio Muller, who was married to Gil, appears in the documentary recalling their relationship, their brief stay at Copacabana Palace, and how they remained close friends after the marriage ended. He also speaks about the birth of their son Francisco and the lasting bond they share.

Actress Carolina Dieckmann, a longtime friend of Gil, chose not to give a recorded interview for the projects. In a video posted to social media she explained that the anniversary still feels too painful to discuss publicly, apologizing to fans and producers while affirming that Gil’s legacy must be celebrated.

Both productions aim to preserve Preta Gil’s musical and cultural impact for future generations.
