Carolina Hurricanes begin Stanley Cup title defense preparations

The Carolina Hurricanes have begun preparations to defend their Stanley Cup title, returning to the ice for training 96 days after their championship win.

The team has been active in managing its roster through free agency. Captain Jordan Staal recently signed a one-year extension, and defenseman Mike Reilly also secured his future with the team via a one-year, two-way extension valued at $850,000 in the NHL. General Manager Eric Tulsky indicated that discussions are ongoing with other pending unrestricted free agents, including Shayne Gostisbehere, Jalen Chatfield, Pyotr Kochetkov, and Jordan Martinook.

On the prospect front, winger Bradly Nadeau may see increased playing time in a top-six role due to Seth Jarvis missing time at the start of the season. Additionally, prospect William Hakansson has been loaned to Sodertalje in Sweden’s Allsvenskan to gain more playing time.
