Dominican Republic: Political shifts and calls for social dialogue

In the Dominican Republic, political and social leaders are addressing internal party dynamics and public safety. Within the Revolutionary Modern Party (PRM), supporters of Carolina Mejía, including Yocasta Lara Hernández and Geanilda Vásquez, have expressed confidence in her presidential aspirations and her ability to lead the party through the 2027 convention without causing division. Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza also defended the current administration of Luis Abinader, projecting party unity for the 2028 elections.

Separately, the Dominican Episcopal Conference (CED) has issued a call for dialogue to prevent violence following incidents involving fatal shootouts between police and alleged criminals. Archbishop Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán emphasized the shared responsibility of the state, families, and society in fostering peace.

On a local level, the Humanist Dominican Party (PHD) leadership has rallied behind President Ramón Emilio Goris to defend the party's institutional integrity against internal criticism. Meanwhile, in El Cachón, municipal director Nerys Medina Alcántara has focused on infrastructure and social projects, including road repairs and community support initiatives.
