Dominican Republic political parties organize for 2028 elections

Dominican political parties are actively organizing ahead of the 2028 general elections. A recent survey by CID Latinoamérica indicates that David Collado leads the PRM presidential preferences with 62%, followed by Carolina Mejía at 21%. Within the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP), Leonel Fernández holds a 60% preference, while Gonzalo Castillo leads the PLD with 41%.

In organizational news, the PLD has postponed its national leaders' assembly to September 28 to finalize the logistics and documentation for its upcoming presidential aspirant consultation scheduled for October 18. Meanwhile, the PRM has launched institutional tours in provinces such as Elías Piña, San Juan, and San Cristóbal to strengthen its territorial structures.

On the opposition front, the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD) has officially authorized President Miguel Vargas Maldonado to initiate strategic dialogues to form a broad opposition coalition for 2028. Additionally, several candidates are already signaling local ambitions, such as PRM deputy Leyvi Bautista, who is seeking the mayoralty of Santo Domingo Oeste.
