Carolina Panthers cornerbacks sidelined by injuries ahead of Lions game

The Carolina Panthers face significant defensive challenges heading into their Sunday night matchup against the Detroit Lions following injuries to both starting cornerbacks.

Jaycee Horn, the team’s top cornerback and a two-time Pro Bowl selection, suffered a significant quad injury during a recent game against the Cleveland Browns. Head coach Dave Canales stated the team is seeking multiple medical opinions to determine a recovery timeline, though reports suggest the injury could sideline Horn for six to 12 weeks.

Additionally, veteran cornerback Mike Jackson is expected to miss the upcoming game after leaving the previous contest with a groin injury. To fill these vacancies, the Panthers are expected to rely on Akayleb Evans and rookie Will Lee III at cornerback, with Chau Smith-Wade likely playing the nickel role. The depleted secondary will be tested by a Detroit Lions passing offense that currently ranks among the league leaders in passing yards and touchdowns.
