Carolina Panthers sign linebacker Tyrel Dodson, waive WR Jimmy Horn Jr

The Carolina Panthers have made roster changes ahead of their Week 2 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. The team promoted veteran linebacker Tyrel Dodson from the practice squad to the active roster. Dodson, a 28-year-old with 43 career starts across stints with the Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks, and Miami Dolphins, joins a linebacker corps that includes Bobby Okereke and Devin Lloyd.

To make room for Dodson, the Panthers waived wide receiver and returner Jimmy Horn Jr. Horn, a 2025 sixth-round pick, struggled in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears, where he muffed a punt that contributed to a scoring drive for the Bears. Following his release, John Metchie III is expected to take over as the primary returner for the upcoming game.

The Panthers (0-1) are scheduled to face the Atlanta Falcons (0-1) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, September 20.
