Carolina Tohá criticizes Chilean government's military security plan

Former Interior Minister Carolina Tohá has expressed concerns regarding the Chilean government’s security agenda, specifically the Agenda against Organized Crime and Terrorism (ACOT). Tohá warned that involving the Armed Forces in primarily police-led operations could prove “very conflictive” due to the operational and strategic complexities of placing military personnel under police-focused designs.

Tohá suggested that military participation should instead focus on protecting critical infrastructure. This approach would allow for the reallocation of resources and personnel to the Carabineros, whom she argues should be the priority for strengthening national security and crime prevention. Additionally, she criticized the government's heavy emphasis on legislative processes, suggesting that the state should prioritize the implementation of concrete measures and increasing police staffing over the rapid processing of new laws.
