Carolina Vargas' Evacuated Home Robbed After Cerro Hermitte Landslide in Argentina

After the violent landslide of Cerro Hermitte forced residents of the El Marquesado neighbourhood (Kilómetro 3) to evacuate, homeowner Carolina Vargas returned to her property on Tuesday. She discovered a thief still inside, who fled when she entered. The intruder had broken windows, entered the workshop, and stolen a range of essential tools, including a welding machine, a Bosch bank drill, a Black & Decker circular saw, and other hand tools used for her livelihood.

Neighbors complained that police protection lasted only a month after the emergency and then disappeared, leaving the abandoned houses vulnerable. In response to the robbery, authorities placed a police trailer back in the sector, but residents continue to demand permanent patrols to prevent further crimes in the deserted homes.
