Carolina Viggiano linked to suspicious companies in luxury mansion purchase
Senator and PRI Secretary General Carolina Viggiano is facing scrutiny regarding the purchase of a luxury residence in Mexico City’s Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood, valued at approximately 40 million pesos.
Investigations indicate the property was acquired through companies identified by the Tax Administration Service (SAT) as ‘factureras’ (entities used for simulated operations). These include Borsa Inmuebles y Bienes Raíces S.A. de C.V. and Corporativo Awiki. Notably, Corporativo Awiki previously served as a provider for the Coahuila state government during the administration of Viggiano’s husband, federal deputy Rubén Moreira.
Discrepancies have been noted between Viggiano’s reported net income and the value of her real estate holdings. Reports suggest the mansion was omitted from her 2022 asset declaration. Members of the Morena party have called upon the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Combating Corruption and the Financial Intelligence Unit to investigate the origin of the funds used for the acquisition.
