Carovigno launches 760,000 euro drainage project to prevent flooding

The Municipality of Carovigno has launched a 760,000 euro drainage project to combat frequent flooding in areas between via Santa Sabina and via Serranova. The initiative is entirely funded by the State and aims to protect homes and roads from extreme weather events.

The area is classified as having high hydraulic risk by the Southern Apennine District Basin Authority. While previous interventions were authorized in 2014, they proved insufficient to prevent streets from turning into rivers and basements from flooding during torrential rains.

The project has seen cost increases due to approved variations in 2025 and 2026, raising the contract value from 496,000 to over 617,000 euros. Work is currently ongoing to mitigate hydrogeological risks and prevent further damage to citizens during future floods.
