Carúpano authorities swear in 118 communal risk committees

Authorities in Carúpano, Sucre State, have sworn in 118 communal risk committees across the Paria region. These committees are designed to provide early responses and primary reactions during natural disasters.

Governor Jhoanna Carrillo and Mayor Julio Rodríguez participated in the ceremony at Rafael Montaño recreational park. The initiative aims to empower organized communities with training on risk maps, emergency protocols, and the identification of unsafe building zones. This follows lessons learned from a double earthquake that occurred on June 24.

The program is part of a larger effort involving 224 sub-communes. Each committee is composed of volunteers trained in civil protection principles. Authorities plan to expand the initiative to the Araya Axis to achieve 100% coverage of communal risk committees, with future efforts focusing on recruiting youth, seniors, and people with disabilities.
