Carral and Cerceda face legal action over water shortages in Xalo

Residents of the O Castelo urbanisation on Monte Xalo have filed a lawsuit against the municipalities of Carral and Cerceda, accusing them of failing to provide reliable water service amid a prolonged drought. The community says the water supply has been reduced to intermittent tanker deliveries – a 26,000‑litre tank one day and a smaller truck the next – forcing them to ration water by cutting supply to different parts of the estate each day.

The neighbourhood association, led by president Eduardo Palmero, argues that the problem could be solved with political will, pointing to nearby reservoirs such as Meirama and As Encrobas that could be tapped if proper pumping infrastructure were installed. The municipalities maintain that they lack competence over the private urbanisation and have offered only temporary tanker service, while the residents demand a permanent solution, regularisation of the urban plan, and an approved environmental plan.
