Grupo Pereira acquires 21 Carrefour Bairro stores in Brazil

Carrefour Brasil has reached an agreement to sell 21 stores from its Carrefour Bairro brand to Grupo Pereira. The transaction includes 15 units in the state of São Paulo and six in the Federal District. While the companies have not officially disclosed the total value, market estimates suggest the deal is worth approximately R$ 360 million.

For Grupo Pereira, the acquisition marks its debut in the São Paulo supermarket market under the Comper brand and strengthens its presence in the Federal District, where it will operate 10 Comper stores alongside its existing Fort Atacadista locations.

The sale is part of Carrefour’s ongoing portfolio optimization strategy in Brazil. The company is shifting its focus toward larger formats, such as Atacadão (cash and carry), Carrefour hypermarkets, and Sam’s Club, while maintaining a presence in the proximity market through the Carrefour Express brand. The completion of the deal is subject to approval by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade).
