Carrefour Polska launches compact hypermarkets in Warsaw and Białystok
Carrefour Polska has completed the remodeling of two flagship locations, transitioning them into 'compact hypermarkets 2.0' at the Westfield Arkadia mall in Warsaw and Galeria Zielone Wzgórze in Białystok. As part of a strategic transformation plan announced by CEO Tomasz Waligórski, the retailer has reduced the sales area of these stores by approximately 2,000 square meters to increase efficiency and lower costs.
The reclaimed space has been leased to other retailers, including Half Price in Warsaw and IKEA in Białystok, to enhance the attractiveness of the shopping centers. The new compact format features expanded fresh product zones, including specialized sections such as 'Zdrowa Półka' (Healthy Shelf), 'Kuchnie Świata' (World Kitchens), 'Active Food', and a 'Zookątek' pet area. Additionally, the Białystok location has implemented CO2-based refrigeration.
This move is part of a broader modernization effort. Carrefour has already launched seven new compact hypermarkets in Poland, with another planned for Lublin this year and a further wave of key hypermarket modernizations scheduled for 2027.
