Carrefour posts €30 million H1 profit as sales rise 2 % and Spain expands stores

Carrefour reported a net profit of €30 million for the first half of 2026, reversing a €401 million loss from the previous year. Global comparable sales grew 2.1 % to €43.8 billion, driven by solid performance in France and a return to growth in Brazil. The group reduced net debt by €1.1 billion, reaching €5.8 billion, and achieved €490 million in cost savings, on track for its €1 billion annual efficiency target.

Spain emerged as a key growth engine, with first‑half revenue of €5.726 billion, up 2.7 % year‑on‑year. Comparable sales rose 2.3 % in food and 2.2 % in non‑food categories, and operating profit increased 7.3 % to €177 million. The retailer opened 44 new proximity stores in the second quarter, bringing its total Spanish footprint to 1,654 outlets, and announced a broader expansion plan that added 78 new stores in the first half of the year.

Carrefour highlighted strong fresh‑food performance, continued momentum in convenience formats and e‑commerce, and the launch of its Carrefour 2030 strategy focused on price competitiveness and AI‑driven operations.
