Carrefour to expand Kenyan store network with nine new locations

Majid Al Futtaim has announced plans to open nine additional Carrefour stores in Kenya during the second half of 2026. This expansion follows a period of growth for the retailer, which operated 34 stores in the country by the end of the first half of 2026.

Carrefour Kenya reported a revenue increase to AED 1.386 billion ($377 million) in 2025, up from AED 1.219 billion ($332 million) in 2024. The Kenyan market has become a significant contributor to the group, representing 3.87% of Majid Al Futtaim’s total revenue across its 14 operating markets.

The retailer maintains a competitive position in Kenya against local chains such as Naivas and Quickmart. Unlike some international competitors that have exited the Kenyan market, Carrefour has focused on larger floor spaces and local sourcing, reporting that 99% of its products in Kenya are sourced locally.
