Carrefour to shut Saint‑Étienne call centre, cutting about 100 jobs
Carrefour Services Clients announced the closure of its call‑centre in Saint‑Étienne, France, originally opened in 1999 in the former Manufrance factory. The shutdown is scheduled for 22 December 2026 and will eliminate roughly a hundred positions.
The company says the decision reflects a structural decline in customer complaints and a shift toward more autonomous, immediate‑response channels. Union Force Ouvrière criticised the move as further externalisation, noting that more than 90 % of the activity is already outsourced to Madagascar, Senegal and Benin. Carrefour has offered internal redeployment, including eleven new posts in Evry‑Courcouronnes and two in Lyon, and is negotiating a job‑preservation plan with the works council and the regional employment authority.
