CarrefourSA sold to Turkey's A101 in $325 million deal

France's Carrefour transferred its Turkish retail arm CarrefourSA to the A101 group, owned by Turkish conglomerate Turgut Adyin. The transaction, valued at about $325 million, was completed in July and financed with a $200 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and a $50 million syndicated loan from the Dutch development bank FMO, tied to sustainability targets. The stores will retain the Carrefour brand for at least two years under a licensing agreement while operating separately from the discount‑store chain A101.

The sale follows Carrefour's broader restructuring, which also saw the French retailer exit Romania by selling its 480‑store network to Pavăl Holding. In Turkey, CarrefourSA, which operates over 1,250 stores across 77 provinces, had accumulated roughly $970 million in debt and posted a net loss of $151 million in 2025. New ownership under Yeni Mağazacılık (A101) aims to strengthen the chain’s financial position and expand its footprint nationwide.
