Carretera Macusani–Nuñoa paving project in Peru's Carabaya province awaits start
Provincial mayor Edmundo Cáceres Guerra announced that the Macusani–Nuñoa road paving project is ready to begin, but the official start remains pending. The first phase will construct a bridge at Bañupampa on the route toward Juliaca, to be carried out by concessionaire Intersury. The road, demanded for over 60 years, is expected to become a strategic economic corridor linking Carabaya and Melgar with the regions of Madre de Dios, Cusco and Arequipa, improving transport of goods, tourism and commerce in southern Peru.
Simultaneously, the National University of Carabaya is awaiting a five‑year authorization from the Ministry of Education to use an existing campus with classrooms, a sports complex and a multipurpose hall. The approval would allow the university to admit its first cohort next year and launch four professional programmes, expanding higher‑education access for hundreds of young people in the northern part of the Puno region. The mayor plans meetings with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to reactivate the project schedule.
