Carretera VAS celebrates 10 years of connectivity in Guatemala

Carretera Vía Alterna del Sur (VAS) is celebrating ten years of operation, providing a 31-kilometer connection between southern municipalities and the Guatemala City metropolitan area. The private road network consists of three main sections: VAS Carretera al Pacífico, VAS Ciudad de Guatemala, and VAS Carretera a El Salvador.

To mark this decade of service, the company has launched a digital evolution aimed at improving user experience. This includes a new website, a renewed mobile application, and a customer service BOT. These technological tools are intended to facilitate service management and reduce wait times at toll booths.

Over its development, the project has utilized more than 700,000 cubic meters of concrete and moved over 8 million cubic meters of earth. Economically, the project has generated more than 1,700 direct jobs and 5,250 indirect jobs. Additionally, the VASMÁS electronic payment system has reduced average toll booth passage times from 13 seconds with cash to just 5 seconds per vehicle.
