Carro do Ano 2027 features 39 candidates across nine classes

The 44th edition of the Seguro Directo Carro do Ano/Troféu Volante de Cristal has announced 39 models from 26 brands competing for the 2027 title. This competition seeks a successor to the Dacia Bigster.

New entries to the competition include Mercedes, Ebro, and Chinese manufacturers Geely and Zeekr, while BMW returns with the i3. Toyota leads the number of entries with four models, followed by Mercedes and Zeekr with three each. Other brands such as Hyundai, Kia, Leapmotor, Opel, Renault, and Xpeng have submitted two models each.

While 39 models are in the main running, a total of 70 entries from 28 brands have been registered across nine specific categories. Notably, the electric vehicle category has been split into two: models with up to 400 km of range and those with more than 400 km. The jury consists of 19 members, including 17 media representatives and two special guests whose votes carry 50% weight to provide a consumer perspective.

Dynamic testing is currently underway and will conclude in February. The winners and class leaders will be announced in March following the reveal of seven finalists. The awards also include the Innovation and Technology Prize and the Personality of the Year.
