Carson Benge emerges as NL Rookie of the Year candidate for Mets

New York Mets rookie Carson Benge is emerging as a candidate for the National League Rookie of the Year following a strong August performance. After struggling in March and April with a .189 batting average, Benge has improved significantly, posting a .298/.358/.463 slash line since May 1.

Benge’s recent surge has coincided with a period of improved play for the Mets, who have gone 12-6 since the trading deadline. In addition to his offensive production, which includes five home runs and 12 RBIs during his hot streak, Benge has provided notable defensive value by throwing out multiple runners.
