Carta Docente: Court extends bonus to educators

The Italian Court of Cassation has ruled that the 'Carta Docente' training bonus is also entitled to educational staff. In ordinance 25597/2026, the high court clarified that the economic benefit for continuous training applies to educators in boarding schools and educational institutions, noting that educational roles are complementary to teaching and belong to the same professional area.

Regarding the 2027 cycle of the Carta Docente, official details are not yet available. Under decree n. 127 of September 9, 2025, the bonus is now regulated by an interministerial decree issued every January 30. This decree defines the criteria and annual amounts based on the number of eligible teachers. Due to the timing of annual contracts, the full list of beneficiaries, including precarious staff, likely will not be known until 2027. It is anticipated that the platform may unlock funds in February. Current projections suggest a potential reduction in the bonus amount to approximately 370 euros.
