Cartagena Archaeological Museum to reopen after renovations

The Enrique Escudero de Castro Municipal Archaeological Museum in Cartagena is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, September 30, following summer renovation and conditioning works. The improvements, announced by the Cartagena City Council, include the remodeling of the exterior gardens, the renovation of the concierge area, and a deep restructuring of the ground floor exhibition halls.

To enhance the museum's educational narrative, the ground floor has seen updated display cases, the addition of new pieces to the permanent collection, and expanded holdings of sculptural and architectural decorative materials. New signage has also been installed to assist with visitor interpretation.

Alongside the reopening, the museum is launching a temporary exhibition titled ‘Plastihistoria del Traje’. This educational exhibit explores the evolution of fashion and clothing through the centuries. To highlight local identity, the exhibition features items such as Roman-era clothing, original pieces from Cartagena’s Modernist period (late 19th and early 20th centuries), and traditional ethnographic costumes provided by local entities.
