Cartagena cancels public transport strike following labor agreement

The public transport strike scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, in Cartagena has been canceled following an agreement between the City Council, the transport company, and labor representatives.

The cancellation comes after the City Council officially recognized the hiring of 11 new drivers. This recruitment aims to address a primary grievance of the 146 workers: the recovery of eight rest days per month, as employees had reportedly lost significant rest time over the past year.

In addition to staffing, the agreement includes measures to modernize the service, such as the installation of ticket vending machines to allow card payments and the addition of restrooms at line terminals for drivers. Improvements to specific routes were also discussed, including increasing capacity on Line 4 and adjusting schedules for Lines 1 and 6 to reduce overcrowding and driver anxiety.
