Cartagena coast sees third migrant landing in a week

An inflatable boat carrying approximately 50 migrants arrived at Cala de los Dentoles, located within the Calblanque Regional Park near Cartagena, on Wednesday morning. The arrival was reported to the 112 Emergency Coordination Center at 7:36 AM after being spotted by an environmental agent.

This incident marks the third major landing in the Cartagena area within a single week. Previous arrivals include a boat with 62 people on August 19 at Cala del Barco and another carrying 49 people on August 22 at Cala Dentoles.

The repeated landings have intensified political tension regarding coastal security. Regional President Fernando López Miras has criticized the Spanish central government for a perceived lack of resources and oversight, calling the situation “unacceptable.” He has requested urgent reinforcements for the Guardia Civil and increased maritime and technological surveillance. The Regional Government Council is scheduled to meet in Cartagena to discuss the matter.
