Cartagena hosts historical reenactment of Qart-Hadast conquest

Approximately 6,000 people gathered at Cuesta del Batel in Cartagena to witness the historical reenactment of the Battle for the Conquest of Qart-Hadast. The event, a central part of the ‘Carthagineses and Romans’ festivals, recreates the year 209 BC when the Roman army, led by Scipio Africanus, conquered the city, leading to its transformation into Carthago Nova.

The spectacle included the Roman landing, the battle between Carthaginian troops and Roman legions, and the subsequent proclamation of Roman Law. This year’s production featured updated scenography and expanded capacity to enhance the historical atmosphere, including depictions of daily life, merchants, and citizens prior to the Roman arrival.

Cartagena Mayor Noelia Arroyo and the President of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, attended the event. Arroyo praised the evolution of the show and the work of the Federation of Troops and Legions, while López Miras highlighted the festival's importance to the identity of Cartagena and the Murcia region.
