Cartagena launches endotherapy campaign against pine processionary moth
The Cartagena City Council has launched an endotherapy campaign to prevent and control the pine processionary moth, a common urban pest during cold months. Through the Parks and Gardens service, the municipality uses phytosanitary injections directly into the trees' vascular systems. This method is designed to be environmentally friendly, safe for humans and animals, and prevents chemical dispersion.
To date, more than 750 pine trees have been treated. The council aims to treat over 6,000 trees before the end of the campaign to minimize the pest's presence before the caterpillars descend to the ground, which can pose risks to citizens and pets.
