Cartagena launches mental health and suicide prevention initiative
The Cartagena City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to suicide prevention and mental health promotion, coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day. The municipal government aims to develop a socio-community care network focused on proximity, coordination, and accompaniment to detect vulnerability before crises occur.
Mayor Noelia Arroyo met with representatives, professionals, and users of ÁPICES following the municipal plenary's approval of an Institutional Declaration in support of the ‘Romper el Silencio’ (Break the Silence) campaign. This initiative seeks to facilitate access to available resources and reduce the social stigma surrounding mental health issues. The declaration emphasizes that seeking help should be viewed as an act of strength rather than a source of shame, while fostering collaboration between public administrations and social entities.
