Cartagena: Man attempts self-immolation in front of courthouse
A 56-year-old man attempted self-immolation in front of the courts on Ángel Bruna Street in Cartagena, Murcia. According to the 112 emergency service of the Region of Murcia, the individual used gasoline, which increased the severity of his injuries.
Witnesses reported that the man set himself on fire in front of a crowd. However, employees inside the courthouse intervened by using fire extinguishers to put out the flames. Local police officers moved the man, who remained conscious, inside the building until an ambulance arrived. He was subsequently transported to the specialized burns unit at the Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca.
The motive for the act is believed to be the man's disagreement with a judicial sentence, though the specific details of the ruling have not been disclosed.
