Cartagena Port Authority launches tender to expand E‑19 front for smaller bulk carriers
The Port Authority of Cartagena has opened a procurement process to award the contract for the fourth‑phase expansion of the E‑19 front in the Escombreras dock. The project adds roughly 300 metres of quay and six new berths, adapting the facility for vessels ranging from 6,000 to 20,000 tonnes deadweight or a single ship up to 315,000 tonnes.
The 14‑month works are budgeted at €33.44 million, with the contract expected to be valued at about €27.64 million. The upgrade aims to boost docking capacity, operational versatility and the port’s competitiveness in handling liquid bulk cargoes.
By repurposing the previously under‑used E‑19 front, the authority seeks to accommodate smaller bulk carriers more efficiently while maintaining safety and exploitation standards.
