Cartagena seeks free land from Sareb for public housing

The Cartagena City Council is requesting that the central government grant the municipality land from Sareb free of charge to develop public housing. Mayor Noelia Arroyo has formally petitioned the Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez, and the Government Delegate in the Region of Murcia, Francisco Lucas, to review the criteria for land transfers.

The request follows an announcement regarding the municipality of Mula, which reportedly secured 10,000 square meters of land from Sareb for affordable housing projects without purchase costs. In contrast, Cartagena was offered several plots for a price exceeding two million euros.

Mayor Arroyo argues that local administrations should receive equal treatment regardless of political affiliation. She also questioned why Sareb maintains undeveloped land in Cartagena while offering it for sale rather than utilizing it to address the local population's residential needs.
