Cartagena seeks to host national basketball and gymnastics championships
The Cartagena City Council is working to position the city within the national sports calendar by seeking to host major basketball and gymnastics championships. In collaboration with the regional government, local authorities are meeting with the Basketball and Gymnastics Federations of the Murcia Region to evaluate the city's organizational capacity and available facilities.
This strategy, led by Mayor Noelia Arroyo, aims to leverage sports as an economic driver. By hosting national competitions, the city expects to attract thousands of athletes, coaches, and spectators, thereby increasing occupancy in hotels and boosting revenue for local restaurants, commerce, and service sectors.
