Cartagena selected for Spanish circular economy tourism initiative

Cartagena has been selected by the Spanish State Secretariat for Tourism, through SEGITTUR, to participate in a national initiative aimed at introducing circular economy principles into the tourism sector. The program seeks to transition from traditional resource consumption and waste generation toward a model that prioritizes material reuse, waste reduction, and responsible consumption.

The first working session of the Sustainable Tourism Motor Group was held at the Cartagena Municipal Archive, bringing together institutional representatives, business owners, and tourism stakeholders. The initiative aims to analyze current resource usage in local tourism activities to implement concrete changes in hotels, restaurants, and tourism-related companies.

Cartagena joins Salamanca, Mérida, and Santa Pola as part of this initiative, which involves municipalities integrated into the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations (Red DTI).
