Juan David Piedrahita wins atypical mayoral election in Cartago

Juan David Piedrahita has won the atypical elections to return as the mayor of Cartago, Valle del Cauca. This election follows the annulment of his previous term by the Council of State due to findings of double militancy.

The election process was marked by significant legal controversy. Although requests for the revocation of his candidacy were filed with the National Electoral Council (CNE), the body did not resolve the legal challenges before the vote took place. This delay allowed Piedrahita to run and secure 17,894 votes, representing approximately 53.3% of the total, despite a high level of voter abstention.

Piedrahita's victory comes amid ongoing legal uncertainty, as observers and opposition sectors question the validity of his candidacy given his prior administrative role. He has stated his intention to continue with his previous development projects for the municipality.
