Cary and Delta launch autumn programs to distribute free native trees
Municipalities in Cary and Delta are launching seasonal initiatives to expand their urban tree canopies through free tree programs for residents.
In Cary, the “My Tree, Our Tree” program is offering five native species to residents this autumn to help reduce temperatures, provide shade, and support local wildlife. Additionally, a pilot program titled “Shading the Future,” funded by a Duke Energy Foundation grant, will strategically plant approximately 200 trees in areas with higher surface temperatures and lower existing canopy cover.
In Delta, the “Planting Our Roots – Free Tree Project” returns for its third fall season. Since its launch in 2024, the program has distributed over 1,250 trees. This season, 250 recipients will be selected via a random draw from eligible households. Participants can choose from ten species, including native options such as the garry oak and vine maple.
