Casa Agapandos Villa in Valle de Bravo Showcases Bachelard‑Inspired Design
Casa Agapandos is a multigenerational residence located in Valle de Bravo, Mexico. Designed by Gómez Crespo Arquitectos, the project translates Gaston Bachelard’s ideas from *The Poetics of Space* into built form, emphasizing an “intimate immensity” where silence and materiality dominate.
The interior, crafted by Simón Hamui Studio, adds a second layer of meaning with custom furniture, high ceilings, and a palette of local stone, native vegetation, wood, and weighted textiles. Every detail, from the Verdi‑colored entry mat to the carefully proportioned rooms, seeks to foster contemplation and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape.
The residence aims to serve as a quiet retreat for several generations, balancing openness to the landscape with a profound sense of enclosure, and illustrates how contemporary architecture can embody philosophical concepts.
