Casa Aybar restoration begins in Dominican Republic's Ciudad Colonial

Dominican Republic Tourism Minister David Collado has launched a restoration project for the historic Casa Aybar in Ciudad Colonial. The project involves an investment of RD$ 102,288,093 to structurally consolidate and rehabilitate the building, transforming it into an institutional, cultural, and tourist space.

The restoration will address architectural elements such as facades, roofs, floors, doors, and windows, while correcting issues like humidity and leaks. Additionally, the project includes upgrading electrical, sanitary, and fire protection systems, as well as constructing a complementary building for a cafeteria and public restrooms. The work also extends to repairing La Atarazanas street, including sidewalks and drainage.

Collado noted that 13 percent of tourists visiting the country now visit the Ciudad Colonial. The Ministry of Tourism has invested approximately $10 million in the area to date. The project is being supervised by the Comité Ejecutor de Infraestructuras de Zonas Turísticas (CEIZTUR).
