Casa das Pretas celebrates seven years of Black culture in Coroadinho
The Casa das Pretas, a collective of Black women from the periphery, is celebrating seven years of community action in the Coroadinho neighborhood of São Luís. Recognized as a ‘Ponto de Cultura’ by the Ministry of Culture, the organization focuses on initiatives involving culture, education, income generation, food sovereignty, climate justice, and the guarantee of rights.
To mark the anniversary, a commemorative event will be held on September 17 at the Centro Cultural Vale Maranhão (CCVM). The celebration includes the launch of the institutional website for the Coletivo Mulheres Negras da Periferia.
Key cultural projects led by the collective include the Quintal Cultural, which has hosted over 30 events, and the Pretoteca Anastácia, a library containing more than 300 works focused on anti-racism and human rights. The organization also supports the Tambor de Crioula Mirim Filhas de São Benedito, a group for children and adolescents, and partners with the Capoeira Arte e Vida project.
