Casa Malonic: A coastal residence in Zihuatanejo designed by HW Studio

Casa Malonic is a 5,350-square-foot coastal residence in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, designed by HW Studio. The architectural concept is centered on the ‘enramada’, a traditional open-sided shade structure used to provide protection from sun and rain.

The design utilizes a material palette inspired by the local environment. The ground finishes are textured and colored to mimic nearby beach sand, while the white walls are inspired by the blossoms of the nine cacalosúchil trees surrounding the property. From the street, the house appears as a sealed white volume defined by a curved concrete wall that follows the road.

Upon entering, the layout reveals a circular courtyard that opens the interior to the sky and tree canopy. The upper floor features an open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area. A broad, flat roof extends over the seaward edge to provide shade for a terrace, creating a transition between the interior spaces and the ocean view.
