Casa Navàs marks 125 years since construction began in Reus

The Casa Navàs, a landmark of European Modernism in Reus, marks 125 years since construction began on October 10, 1901. Commissioned by textile business owners Joaquim Navàs and Pepa Blasco, the building was designed by architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner to integrate commercial activity with a family residence.

During its construction, Domènech i Montaner collaborated with prominent artisans, including Gaspar Homar and Lluís Bru, to create an ensemble featuring extensive stained glass, ceramics, and mosaics. While the building was completed in stages between 1905 and 1908, it suffered significant damage on March 24, 1938, when a bomb destroyed the upper section, including the frontispiece and the 'torratxa' (tower).

Although subsequent rehabilitation efforts focused on structural recovery, the full architectural vision remains incomplete. A final restoration project is set to conclude on November 12, 2026, with the inauguration of the tower, an event titled ‘The return of a symbol: Reus touches the sky again’.
