Casa Tlalpan to become public university and high school campus

The former Casa Tlalpan, once the residence of Arturo “El Negro” Durazo, will be converted into a public educational complex. President Claudia Sheinbaum announced the project, which will house a campus for the Universidad Nacional Rosario Castellanos (UNRC) and a National Baccalaureate.

The site, spanning over six hectares, includes auditoriums, sports areas, and open spaces. The UNRC is scheduled to begin full operations at the location in 2027, offering five undergraduate degrees: Psychology; Law and Criminology; Administration and Commerce; Tourism; and Economics and Sustainable Development. UNRC Rector Alma Xóchitl Herrera noted that a recent call for applicants drew 3,067 candidates.

The National Baccalaureate will have a capacity for 1,200 students. According to Secretary of Public Education Mario Delgado, the facility will feature 12 classrooms, computer labs, and performing arts workshops, including visual and musical arts programs.
